Higher-octane fuel resists premature ignition (known as knock or pinging) under high compression. Engines engineered for regular-grade fuel are not built to those compression levels, so premium fuel does nothing extra for them. Most vehicles clearly state their fuel requirement on the fuel cap or in the owner's manual. If your vehicle requires premium, use it.
